Last reviewed 6 October 2026

Dropbox Transfer alternatives at a glance

A Dropbox Transfer alternative with a link password and an expiry date is pCloud Premium 500 GB, WeTransfer Ultimate, Smash Pro or Filemail Pro; Dropbox Standard adds both without leaving Dropbox. Dropbox Transfer is Dropbox's send-only delivery for files you do not need to collaborate on, and it comes with every Dropbox plan.

Prices are billed monthly, so each row sets like against like, and each carries its date. Dropbox Standard is priced per user; the other rows are for one person.

What Dropbox Transfer leaves out on Plus

On Dropbox Plus, 2 TB at $11.99 a month billed monthly (1 October 2026), a transfer has no password, custom expiry date or branding. Those start on Standard, as do passwords and expiry dates on ordinary shared links. Plus transfers go up to 50 GB and expire after 7 days, and Dropbox Basic sends up to 2 GB. A transfer does not use your Dropbox storage, and the recipient needs no Dropbox account.

pCloud shared links and pCloud Transfer

On pCloud's US pricing page on 3 October 2026, Premium 500 GB was $4.99 a month, billed monthly, or $49.99 a year, billed yearly. pCloud's help lists link passwords and expiry dates as Premium features, which means a paid plan; branded links come with it. It suits someone who wants the files stored in the account, not a send-only tool.

Recipients download through your link traffic, the monthly cap on what other people download or stream from your links: 1000 GB on Premium 500 GB. Links stop when it is used up, until it resets.

pCloud Transfer is a separate free service: up to 5 GB a transfer, no pCloud account for the recipient, and an optional password that pCloud says encrypts the files in the browser. Check the per-file limit the Transfer page shows before sending one large file. The pCloud share link settings guide has the steps.

WeTransfer Ultimate, Smash Pro and Filemail Pro

  • WeTransfer Ultimate, $25 a month or $228 a year (US price list, 5 October 2026): password, custom expiry and branded pages. Its card says individual use only; the Teams plan adds shared workspaces and admin tools, with its price on WeTransfer's page. Pick it for branded, large transfers. See pCloud vs WeTransfer.
  • Smash Pro, $10 a month billed monthly: a password is on every plan, including Free, and branded pages are on paid plans.
  • Filemail Pro, $14 a month billed monthly (price list, 22 September 2026): password protection, branding and a custom expiry date, with transfers up to 250 GB.

Staying on Dropbox: when Standard is the simpler fix

Dropbox Standard adds custom expiration dates, passwords and logos to transfers, for $15 a user a month billed yearly (5 October 2026) or $18 billed monthly, with transfers up to 100 GB. It is the smaller change when the team already works in Dropbox.

Dropbox lists a free trial of Standard. pCloud has no personal-plan trial, only a refund requested in writing within 14 calendar days of paying, and it can decline a refund on a discounted purchase. pCloud vs Dropbox for business sets the two side by side.
