Similar labels can hide different paths
A service may offer a dedicated request, an upload option on a shared link and a collaborative folder invitation. Each can move files toward the owner, but they need not provide the same account requirements or visibility. Match instructions to the exact route you created. A generic instruction to use the upload link can leave a client at an unexpected sign-in screen.
Read the current distinction
pCloud’s request documentation separates account-free file requests from uploading through shared-link settings, which can require a pCloud account. Treat that as a meaningful product distinction. Do not assume that the presence of an upload button means a client can use it anonymously or that a request grants permission to browse earlier submissions.
Test without private material
Before sending a real request, use a harmless sample and the kind of recipient access you intend to support. The owner’s signed-in session can conceal friction or additional permissions. Record the required action and the actual result. A failed collection path does not justify broadening access to the entire workspace just to get one file through.
A fictional correction
A freelancer sends an upload-enabled shared link to a client who has no account. The client reports a sign-in requirement. If the actual need is simply to collect a reference file, the freelancer can evaluate the dedicated request feature instead. The correction is choosing the appropriate mechanism, not telling the client to share credentials or creating an unnecessary account on the client’s behalf.
Put the decision into practice
Keep the exact feature name beside the client instructions in your internal template. When the service changes its interface, check that route rather than copying a screenshot from a different mechanism. The useful acceptance question is whether the intended client can complete the upload without receiving unnecessary access.
