WeTransfer alternative: five services for sending client files

WeTransfer alternatives at a glance

For client files, start with pCloud Transfer, which sends up to 5 GB free; Smash, Filemail, Dropbox Transfer and MASV are the four other WeTransfer alternatives here, each with a free allowance. WeTransfer's own paid plans start with Starter at $10 a month, billed monthly, or $84 a year (WeTransfer's US price list, 5 October 2026).

Why freelancers look past WeTransfer Free

WeTransfer Free allows 3 GB or 10 transfers in any 30-day window and keeps links up to 3 days. Its pricing page marks the Free card "For individual, non-commercial use only", and its FAQ recommends a paid plan for business or professional work. Password protection, custom expiration and branded pages start at Ultimate, and the Starter and Ultimate cards also say "For individual use only".

WeTransfer alternative free: pCloud Transfer, Smash, Filemail and Dropbox Basic

Four services send a free transfer, and a fifth gives 15 GB a month against a card:

• pCloud Transfer: up to 5 GB a transfer, free, and the recipient needs no pCloud account. A sender who is not signed in verifies an email.
• Smash Free: 2 GB a transfer with no sign-up, valid 7 days; larger transfers join a queue behind Pro.
• Filemail: up to 5 GB free without registration. Its Basic plan keeps files up to 7 days, allows 3 recipients, and Filemail says it is for personal or commercial use.
• Dropbox Basic: Dropbox Transfer, its send-only delivery, takes up to 2 GB for 7 days, and the sender logs in to dropbox.com.
• MASV: 15 GB a month free, with a card required and a $10 pre-authorization at sign-up.

The limits that matter are the 7-day expiry on Smash Free, Filemail Basic and Dropbox Basic, and the card MASV asks for before its free 15 GB.

WeTransfer alternative for large files: Smash Pro, Filemail Pro and MASV

Smash Pro lists unlimited transfer size and keeps transfers 30 days. Filemail Pro was $14 a month, billed monthly, on its 22 September 2026 price list, with 250 GB a transfer, permanent files and 1 TB of storage. MASV charges $0.25 per GB, or $58 a month for 250 GB on a 12-month commitment. On Dropbox, Plus sends up to 50 GB, and passwords, custom expiry dates and logos start at Standard.

A shared link from a pCloud Premium plan is the storage route: Premium 500 GB was $4.99 a month, billed monthly, on 3 October 2026, with 1000 GB of link traffic, the monthly cap on downloads through your links. Filemail lists a 7-day free trial on its paid plans. pCloud's refund window is 14 calendar days from payment, by written request, and a refund can be declined on a discounted purchase.

Collecting files instead of sending them

pCloud file requests let anyone upload with no pCloud account. Dropbox file requests are on every plan, with 2 GB a file on Basic and Plus and 250 GB on Standard. Smash drop-off links are paid, Filemail's file request starts at Pro, and MASV Portals are on every plan.

Start with pCloud Transfer for a free send, and choose a pCloud plan when client files should stay in storage. Pick Smash Pro, which Smash lists with no transfer size limit, or Filemail Pro, whose plan lists permanent availability, to keep sent files online. Pick MASV for rare sends of hundreds of gigabytes paid for by the gigabyte, and Dropbox Transfer when you already pay for Dropbox. pCloud vs WeTransfer, pCloud Transfer and free file transfer for large files go deeper.
